Now that all of my furniture is moved in and the keys to my old apartment are turned in, it's time for the fun part...decorating the new place! I don't plan on buying too much new stuff so I have to get creative and make it feel homey with what I've got. I do plan on buying a few odds & ends if I find some good deals, though.
I'm planning on doing an apartment tour series at the end of this month so that y'all can see my new place!
One thing that I'm looking forward to trying out is a gallery wall! I love all of these gallery walls.
I'm a little bit nervous, because I wouldn't consider myself to have an eye for design.
I feel like you have to be very careful with gallery walls. They either look really good OR really bad.
I don't want it to be too cluttered, but I don't want it to be too plain either. I've got to find a happy medium.
So far I've ordered 7 frames (in shades of grays & yellows), but I can't decide if I want to add anything else or just keep it simple with the frames. And do I put prints in the frames or leave them empty? Decisions, decisions!
If you have any advice on my gallery wall to be then send it my way :)
I love your inspiration images. My parents have done a gallery wall in their house but have spaced the frames to far apart & it looks all wrong, so its definately a talent to get it right...Good Luck!!
ReplyDeleteI just added a picture of our new gallery wall in my latest post! I love it but I was fretting the entire time, my perfectionist/indecisive side couldn't make up it's mind. Finally the hubs insisted that we hang them and now...I'm in love. It's simple yet adds just enough to the wall :) Good luck, I'm sure yours will be great!
ReplyDeleteIf you can get a gallery wall up within a month I would be amazed with you! I have been in my house for almost a year and have very few pictures on the wall. I have huge anxiety when it comes to putting holes in my wall. I feel like it's so final!
ReplyDeleteI have read that if you lay them out the way that you want them on the floor first then you know that it looks good before you put them up.
Oooooh decorating a new place is SO fun! Can't wait to see photos :)

I love the ones with all the empty frames! can't wait to see your pictures!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I just did a gallery wall in our living room. We used all earth tone frames and filled them with black and white prints of us and old photos of our grandparents/parents when they were young. But, I love the idea of empty frames as well!
ReplyDeleteI would say use different sizes and keep the frames, items, close together. I like using same colored frames or a palette of colors and then just filling in with unexpected items. A friend I know used frames, mirrors, prints, chalkboard, and vintage coffee cans and things. They all were in the same color palette, but it wasn't overwhelming at all!
ReplyDeleteJust be creative and if you don't love it, change it.

P.S. Don't be like me and put 100 holes in the wall haha :).
I LOVE gallery walls! If you look at the blog Young House Love they have a gorgeous gallery wall and have tips to create one. I think I also have a pin on pinterest under my Home board that gives different ways to hang frames and such to make a gallery wall. I'll try and find it and tweet it to you. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about doing a gallery wall in my apartment above my couch for a while. But like you said, it can go really well or really bad!
ReplyDeleteI think I need to search around Pinterest more to get inspiration, because I don't even know what pictures I'd want to have up there!

ReplyDeleteYou and me both sista! I have so much wall space in our new 3 story place and it's white walls too! Blah! Lol can't wait to see what you do :-)
ReplyDeleteI love a good gallery wall. I can't wait to try one out when I move!
ReplyDeleteI think the key to making it look good is mixing textures and shapes. Also, I would recommend using other stuff other than frames!
I love Jenni's wall (maybe a smaller version?)...she has some good tips for creating a gallery wall! Instead of framing pictures, try framing things like bunches or wheat or flowers (or whatever goes with YOUR style) and fun prints!

I think this is an awesome one. I love the mixing of shapes and colors. It just looks put together without trying to hard you know?

Definitely the key is mix and matching! Try fnding thrifted frames and fun little things to hang! Its all a representation of you, so make it fun!!
I hope this helps a little! Good luck, can't wait to see the new place!
I totally agree, gallery walls can either look awesome or just plain tacky. Since you're using different coloured frames, I would think you should leave the frames empty. If they were all the same colour I'd say put prints in them. Good luck girly!

ReplyDeleteI love gallery walls! I have one in my kitchen and it brightens up the whole room! http://emily022589.blogspot.com/2012/09/picture-update.html
ReplyDeleteFor me the key was to spraypaint all the frames the same color so it didn't look so busy.
I love the idea of a gallery wall! I say the more eclectic the better!! I love the first one. Photos, word art, and a chalkboard - perfect. Can't wait to see what you come up with...
ReplyDeleteI love gallery walls! And grey and yellow are such pretty colors, they will look amazing! It might be neat to put in a few great prints or pictures, but leave the rest of the frames empty!
ReplyDeleteI love the chalkboard frame in picture 1! Definitely might have to try something like that! :)
ReplyDeleteYou could do both! Put photos in some frames and leave others empty. :) Come on, sis. You're not exactly a "stay in the lines" kind of gal (well, other than being totally Type A, but... you know). Unleash that free spirit on the gallery wall! Do whatever you want. It will be beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteI love you!
I have been DYING to do a gallery wall in my front room. Thanks for the pic inspiration so I can figure out on where to get started!!
