Book Wormin It!

Reading has always been a constant in my life.
Since I could talk, I've known how to "read"...aka memorize books and flip the pages while reciting what I knew from memory. I have many memories from my childhood that stem from reading.

In first grade, there was the book cave...a few tables pushed together with a black sheet draped over them and flashlights scattered inside. I also remember my mom reading to my brother & I during bath time every night. I've always been captivated by the art of words & storytelling. In high school I would sometimes stay home rather than hanging out with my friends, because I was so engrossed in a story #nerdalert! Okay, I still do that now...

My love for reading has only grown as I've gotten older.
So today I want to share with you some books that are on my ever-growing "To Read" list :)

one. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Not sure why I haven't read this yet? I really need to get with the times.

two. The Great Gatsy by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I read this in high school, but I want to reread it since the movie is coming out soon!

three. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I keep seeing this book all over the place, so I should probably give it a go.

four. Pure by Julianna Baggott
The first in a series that was recommended to me by Sara.

five. Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
This is an incomplete work; one of the drafts got leaked online in 2008 so Meyer postponed finishing it. It is Twilight but from Edward's point of view.

six. Bossypants by Tina Fey
I've been wanting to read this book because Tina Fey is hilarious, and Sara's post pushed me over the edge to finally add it to my list!

seven. The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
Adam is by no means a reader but is so excited about this book becoming a movie so I need to hurry up and read it before the movie comes out!

eight. Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares
#5 in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series...I wasn't aware that there was a 5th one! Apparently it talks about the girls' lives after 10 years have gone by.

nine. A Voice in the Wind by Francine Rivers
Redeeming Love (also by this author) is one of my all time favorite books, so I want to read this one! This is the first one in the Mark of the Lion series...I want to read them all.

ten. Explosion in Paris by Linda Masemore Pirrung
I know nothing about this book, but I keep seeing it on GoodReads and the reviews that it received are through the roof!

Are there any books that you've read that you think I just can't go on without reading?! I'd love to hear about them!

  1. The Great Gatsby is on my to read list as well. I remember reading it in HS but not really caring.

Oh and you are warned: if you loved the other Sisterhood books, Sisterhood Everlasting WILL make you cry. It's a wonderful book, but I did shed a tear.

Awesome blog btw! Definitely one of my favorites!

  5. I too love books and I did the same in high school... I stayed home to read a lot!

You might add "a prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving to your list and I know this sounds pretty cliche, but "the help" was wOnderful! I also really enjoyed the secret life of bees" by sue monk kid. I love books! You seem to have quite the list going so far!

    Happy reading!

  7. Reading is in a lot of childhood memories for me as well. My mum is an infant school teacher and every year the book fair would come to her school. Big metal bookcases full of books, one of my favourite things to do was go into the hall once all the other children had left and open up those bookcases and explore all the books whilst waiting for my mum to finish work, it felt so special, having this book fair all to myself.
Bossypants is a great book, very funny. I haven't read any of the other books and didn't even know there was a travelling pants series of books. One of my favourite authors at the moment is Dianne Chamberlain, I think I've read about ten of her books now and have thoroughly enjoyed them all.

  12. I always have 1 or 2 books going at a time, I love to read! I actually just wrote about it on my blog timeofyourlifekb.com

I love anything by Jodi Picoult, Barbra Delinsky and can you ever go wrong with Nicholas Sparks? I find that sometimes just browsing your local library and book stores can be the best ways to find off the beaten path books, maybe ones you have not heard of but have a great story!

    Happy reading!

  21. Let me know how Book Thief is! I have it, and couldn't read it because of the style that it was written--drove me nuts.

And I remember reading the Mark of the Lion series a long time ago--it's pretty good. If you haven't read her Atonement Child, it's probably my favorite (not that you need any more books=))

  32. I just finished reading Gatsby! Love that book. And I didn't know there was a 5th Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book either. I did read another book by Ann Brashares called The Last Summer and I hated it. I loved the Sisterhood books though, so I'll keep my hopes up for #5!

  33. As far as book recommendations...Did you ever read the Christy Miller series by Robin Jones Gunn? It's a Christian series geared for teenage girls and I LOVE it. I read them when I was younger and then again in college. Robin Jones Gunn has a young adult series called the Glenbrooke Series. I just got my sister hooked on that one!

  34. If you're looking for a funny book, "Why Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me" by Mindy Kaling is hilarious. I definitely recommend it.

Have you read any of Emily Giffin's books? She has a new one coming out soon! Read Something Borrowed before Something Blue, but the rest aren't related. They're quick chick lit that you can't help but love.

  36. I just got the book on top of Bossypants from the library and have been listening to it in my car. Yesterday I was crying I was laughing so hard. Which doesn't make for the safest driving conditions but it's so funny. It's read by Tina so that makes it even better!
