If you've been reading this little blog of mine for more than let's say, a week, you know that I've been growing out my luscious locks (okay, they're getting there...). I talk about it on the regular, because I've been working hard to grow this out:
Cute shot of me stuffing my face on Easter a few years ago. You're welcome. Anyway, I've made some serious progress (which you've seen if you follow me on Instagram) and I've had some of y'all ask me what hair products I use/what I've done to grow out my hair.
Well today, the mystery is revealed. Okay, it's not really a mystery...just a bunch of random stuff that I tried and worked for me. Here you go:
1. Redken Body Full Shampoo - I use this every other day (which is how often I wash my hair).
2. Redken Extreme Conditioner - I use this every other day as well.
3. Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Moroccan Oil Treatment - I use a dime size of this on the days that I wash my hair. After I get out of the shower and comb through my hair, I apply this to the shaft and ends of my hair. I make sure not to get too close to the roots or it makes my hair greasy.
4. Not You Mother's Beat the Heat - I use this whenever I'm using heat tools on my hair as a heat protector. I spray it throughout my damp hair before blow drying (after #3).
5. Herbal Essence Tousle Me Softly Tousling Hairspray - I use this before I straighten or curl my hair to tame the fly aways on top of my head. They're pretty out of control, y'all.
6. Not Your Mother's She's A Tease Volumizing Hairspray - I use this as my finishing hairspray every day. I use it for each layer that I'm styling as well, to give each layer some texture before I style it.
7. Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo - OBSESSED. This is my favorite dry shampoo. I use this on the days that I don't wash my hair.
8. John Masters' Organics Sea Mist - I use this when I curl my hair to give it texture. I also use it to bring my second (or third...don't judge) day curls back to life. I don't use this everyday, because it dries out my hair (it's supposed to make your hair beachy).
I also take a 5,000 mcg Biotin vitamin every morning and get trims every 8ish weeks. My hair stylist knows that I'm in the process of growing my hair out so she only takes off a very little bit each time I go. I also get my hair colored each time I go to her.
If you have any questions, ask away :) Oh and I'm still working up the courage to do the requested wavy-curl tutorial...
I'm going to have to try #7 and #8! I've been wanting a sea mist spray for a beachy look! I've been using Batiste dry shampoo which I like but I've heard great things about the Not Your Mother's line of products.
ReplyDeleteLove my batiste "dirty girl" dry shampoo LOL! I wash my hair every 3 days otherwise it gets horrendously dry and I'm trying to grow it too. Thanks for the tips, I def need to get a heat protector spray for blow drying. x
ReplyDeleteI love your long hair. I'm sure the vitamins and regular trims help the most! :)
ReplyDeletewish I found your post waaay back in the day. I used to have super short hair too!! You look lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteI i flipped through some of your facebooks pics last night... cause i'm creepy. I came to two conclusions
ReplyDelete1. GOODNESS GRACIOUS HER HAIR IS SO MUCH LONGER
2. You can really see her evolution of her from awesome to an awesome blogger!
also im obsessed with "Shes a Tease"
loveeeeeee
I love your blog, Miss Jessica! So cute and relatable. :)
ReplyDeleteAhhh I need that Not Your Mother's Beat The Heat for sure!
ReplyDeleteAlso, love your current nail color. Such a cute pinky color for Spring. Going to be on the hunt for that one now. I may have a slight addiction to buying nail polish. Oops.
Your hair posts crack me up! Honestly, they are partially the reason why I have decided to keep my long/knotty/incredible long time to dry hair --ha! I think I would regret it too much if I cut my hair short, even though there are days when I really want to.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I have post with the same title in my drafts for a rainy day :)
When I donated my hair, I was obsessed with growing my hair back. I heard general scalp stimulation worked so I constantly tugged on my hair and used a head massage-r. I don't know if it worked but I have super long hair and I never want to cut it again (besides trims of course).. haha
ReplyDeleteI am SO proud of your progress already friend!!! And you're already rockin' the beach waves with yo' talented self!! GET IT!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Redken too... and wish I can wash my hair every other day. I swear I'm a greaseball every morning after I work out :/
I think it's great you don't wash your hair everyday. I'm reading more and more that's HEALTHY to let your natural oils get into your hair etc.
ReplyDeleteI am guilty of going 5 days w/out washing. Yes you read that correctly. I'm thankful that my hair doesn't get too greasy. I really need to find that Dry Shampoo - any tips on where to pick it up? I've tried Dove and a few other dry shampoos but NEVER like how they smell.
i need to try a dry shampoo that works! my hair is thin and gets greasy so fast. Where do you buy that kind?
ReplyDeleteahhh good luck! it is such a painful and long process!
