When I'm 27...

The future can be a scary thing if I let myself sit here and dwell on it. Lately I've been making an effort to really focus on the here & now and make sure to live in the moment...to be all there all the time. And let me tell you, that is not easy for a type A person like myself ;)

Anyway, last week's Smell the Roses task was to write a letter for yourself to read in 5 years. I used this as an opportunity to address a few fears that I have about the future. Now that they are out, I can really focus on appreciating each and every day for what it is!

Dear Jessica -

Well first of all, I hope by now that you are Mrs. Massey ;) Just saying. But besides that, you are 27 years old. That sounds so much older than 22. I'm writing this as a part of my blog "Lovely Little Things." I'm curious to see if I'm still blogging. I'm also super curious to see where I am career wise. Wherever you are - do NOT settle. You have so much drive & passion! Don't ever let that be muffled. I hope you've learned how to control your inner sassafrass and hold down some legit girlfriends. Oh and I hope that your patience level has improved - ha! I'm currently sitting in my first "big girl" apartment (with Boots snoozing on the coffee table) and the biggest thing on my heart is to have confidence in yourself. Do what's in your heart. Give your all - don't hold back. Don't be scared to do what Jesus tells you to - He is for you - promise :). Last thing - I really hope you're still about health & fitness. If not...get your butt up and moving ASAP...like NOW! Keep trucking, girlfriend - you're making a difference.

                                                                                     xoxo,
                                                                                     22 year old you

I don't know what my life is going to be like when I'm 27 and you know what? THAT'S OKAY!
I'm really excited to live each & every day before that. Now the key is for me to actually remember to open this bad boy in 5 years ;)

Did you write yourself a letter to read in 5 years? Link up!

This week's task:
Make a collage of things that represent you.

I think it would be fun if we stopped for a little while and reflected on whats makes us...us! All of our happy things in one place? Sounds good to me :)

Happy Monday, people!

  4. Haha I know that 27 sounds old, because that's what I will be in October! I can definitely vouch that you will change a LOT between 22 and 27. In my opinion...life gets easier. You learn what to be passionate about and what to let roll off your back. I was with my hubby when I was 22, and we got married two years after that. I think you might be Mrs. Massey before then ;) I am so excited that I got to link up!

  6. I have done so many letters to myself and received some because that time has passed. I love reading back to them and realizing how far I have come.

  7. Oh man, you'll be 27 in 5 years. I'll be 27 in November!!! Crazy!! This made me reflect and try to remember what I was doing when I was 22. That was not a good year at all (got suspended from school, moved back in with the parents, etc.) and it's good to think that I am in a much better place now. I hope you can say the same when your 27. Life is a gift, as you know, so I am sure you will make it all count! Loved this post!!

  9. i love this post and love your letter! It's always amazing for me to think about the things I worried about and struggled with 5 or 10 years ago. Then I think how I'll probably do the same 5 years from now too.

  11. Reading your letter reminded me of a verse I read this morning...
"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you" psalm 32:8

    Such a great reminder!

Hope you have a lovely Monday!

  14. I like that your letter was short and sweet, but very honest! It's hard trying to put our lives onto paper for two years from now, let alone five years from now!

  20. I love reading old letters... but have never come across one from myself. Great idea friend... and I love the message behind it all. Not to only be excited to see where you will be in 5 years, but to appreciate where you were 5 years ago!! Make the most of your life gooorl, and let me remind you that living in the PRESENT is much more relieving than living in the future (or worse... the past!).

    Love you ooberly!!
